PEDAGOGY OF FILM II
Film, Audiovisual Arts and Education
The course offers a systematic framework of principles, objectives and methods for teaching film and audiovisual arts in Education. It examines different approaches to film education and audiovisual literacy so that students can critically evaluate them. Students practice various practical applications and develop educational scenarios and programs for film education and audiovisual literacy.
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
- understand in depth the principles of learning and teaching and the teaching practices of active, student-centered and inquiry-based learning
- know the principles and practices that make up the teaching of art in education and in particular film education and audiovisual education and the areas in which they meet modern approaches to innovation and creativity
- know the various approaches to film education and audiovisual education, critically understand the issues developed in the literature and that this is related to the various representations of teaching
- know the various benefits that arise from the encounter of the art of cinema and digital arts with education and society
- combine the basic elements of film and teaching theory and educational practice
- compose objectives, learning outcomes and activities for the production of educational scripts, to develop film education and audiovisual literacy programs in different educational, social and cultural contexts
The thematic areas presented in the 13 teaching units are as follows:
- Child and media, child and cinema
- Cinema and audiovisual arts in education: definition, dimensions, aims and objectives of film education: viewing, analysis, creation.
- Cinema as an autonomous art and cinema as a learning tool
- Examples and applications of film education: international practices and applications, film education institutions, the Greek experience
- Formation of film education programs and teaching scripts
- Cinema and curriculum
- Documentary in education
- Animation in education
- Cinema and gender
- Cinema and inclusion
